Energy Choices

Alberta governments electrical deregulation only effects the supply of power but the distribution services have not been deregulated. As a Rocky R.E.A. Ltd. member, you receive your distribution services at cost. Other retailers do not have to provide your distribution services at cost as they are not operating as a not-for-profit organization.

Prairie Power has obtained a stable, low cost source of power for the five year regulated rate option period. The Alberta Energy and Utilities Board has set out a methodology for a Market Access Fee which Prairie Power has adopted. This methodology basically requires the departing customer to pay the difference between the Prairie Power regulated rate option and the current forward price for power times the amount of power the customer is expected to use over the remaining term of the contract. There is also a processing fee of $150.00 per customer.

3
Once a member has left the R.E.A. as their retailer, and now wants to return to the R.E.A. as a default supplier, the cost to provide service to the member could have additional charges added.

The goal of the Rocky R.E.A. is to offer our members a stable, low price source of power, with quality customer service and to operate on a not-for-profit basis.
